Club MadShark

Quick little video post. Neon effects along with some sparks and background volume light. I also used Element 3D if you can notice. MadShark Media is a group I work with and recently interviewed a couple of local bands in LA. We decided on creating a format that corresponds with nightclubs like The Conga Room where we go and interview bands from the night card.

Fast and Furious 6 Review

Fast-and-furious-6-movie

I finally went to the silver screen two times this past week, so I’m back on track with my Review section. I’ll be doing some other films from earlier this year, just to fill in the void….sooo Fast 6, was great! This series has become a big hit. All I heard these past couple weeks was, Fast 6 was sick!!! Have I seen Fast 6 it’s crazy, you won’t believe what happens at the end…so I went to go see it. This film didn’t disappoint and to top it off, I want to see them all again in order. Fast 6 had me from the beginning(Loved the intro), not one second did I think this was a bad movie or felt bored. Justin Lin knows how to direct a big screen flick. Now, since I’m in a good mood, I’m not even going to address the corny overly  exaggerated scenes (Dom Flying), but this is a Summer Blockbuster so I expect it. This isn’t going to get any prestiges awards or any accolades from the Academy, but who cares. Fast 6 was cool gut-wrenching action to the fullest. To be critical, many one liners and cliches. Dwayne’s roles seem to be always Arnold like. Simple one liners and intimidating gestures, beats up some dudes and leaves, but he’s getting paid and I can’t hate on that. I haven’t seen Snitch so I’ll stop harping on his acting…Luke Evans was great, perfect villain for this film. One note on his death: Horrible. Can’t an epic villain have at least a decent death, I’m begging you Hollywood. Anyways keep a look out for Evans he has a couple of films coming out that should be pretty damn good. Overall Fast 6 was a genius action film, Lin did a great job with the Fast Furious films (3,4,5,6) too bad he won’t be directing the next one. With Fast and Furious 6, Justin Lin has created the Fast and Furious movie fans never imagined was possible. It’s bigger and more exciting than Fast Five. It is fast, smart, dumb, and ridiculously fun . Its not-so-tragic flaw, as expressed in the overboard action and frequent references to the previous five films, is assuming everyone in the audience is a fan of the franchise. At this point, sitting down to watch the next film, you either love it or hate it. I love it.

Star Trek: Into Darkness Review

Poster

There is no doubt this franchise has made huge strides from it’s original predecessor. I’ll be honest, I’ve never been a fan of  Gene Roddenberry‘s creation. It took me 3 years to watch J.J. Abrams  2009 version and since then I’ve caved in. This sci-fi action packed sequel to Abrams Star Trek was no disappointment. From the gut wrenching opening scene, to crisis after crisis, Into Darkness left me feeling all good inside wanting a third Abram film to top off this incredible refreshed Star Trek saga. Still, it wasn’t perfect despite efforts to widen appeal beyond the sci-fi hardcore, the dialogue often gave into nonsense. (But what movie isn’t)  Then there was Kahn, the scary not so scary villain after all gimmick. There was a point where I honestly thought he wasn’t the antagonist, but Marcus. Obviously there are some holes and exaggerated drama to a hurried climax and  Kirk dangling from ledges, but this is what we pay for when we go to the movies. Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto were amazing and their chemistry is just so so good. The scene that really caught me was when the Enterprise was in it’s falling from space stage and Spock expresses his rage/feelings for the first time. I thought that Benedict Cumberbatch character “Kahn’ could have had a much more impact. There was so much potential to make him a surreal villain, he was really good when prompted. Felt maybe he could have been better developed as a villain. Overall this film is right there with the first film. Very good story and flow. Highly recommend it, one of the best films of the year so far.

FUJIFILM SEMINAR

This seminar will help you wrestle your color problems into submission. We’ll talk about best practices on set, and we’ll talk about how to make final color easier.  And we’ll introduce you to Fujifilm’s hit new product, the ISmini, a revolutionary device that makes it easy to color match any number of monitors, HDSDI or HDMI, regardless of type or manufacturer.  Add a 3D LUT on top of that, and you can color manage the entire image chain from the camera.  Or connect the ISmini to Fujifilm’s full-blown look creation system, the IS-100 CCBOXX, and control the color for up to 100 cameras at once. Also, learn the essentials of the new ACES color workflow from experts.  Special guest: re-known cinematographer Dean Cundey, ASC will discuss his shoot of the feature “Something Whispered” and how he handled looks during  production and post.
